NEW YORK - U.S. stocks opened slightly higher Friday, with the few investors present for the final trading session of 2006 cheering the latest development in the Apple Computer Inc. stock-options inquiry and prospects that Marsh & McLennan Companies Inc. is close to a deal to sell Putnam Investments.
